The new config management module allows monitoring and storing configuration changes for a variety of devices such as switches, routers, firewalls, and other.
The device profiles have been ported to NetCrunch from the existing open-source project Oxidized and contain over 130 device profiles.
Additionally, NetCrunch allows adding custom profiles in YAML with a built-in editor.
It's a partial replacement for the old inventory module. The new sensor tracks configuration changes and can notify of a specific change.
Windows configuration is similar to Device Config stored as text files and can be easily compared between two snapshots.
Additionally, the hardware configuration is now visible in the node status and node view list.
The new service-based node allows monitoring of a single cloud service. NetCrunch 12 introduces about 30 cloud monitors for monitoring Azure, Amazon AWS, Google, and other services.
Monitoring Packs for outdated Anti-Virus software have been removed:
NetCrunch 12 brings over 30 new Monitoring Packs for Anti-Virus software
NetCrunch allows additional root certificates not included by default in the Mozilla certificate package used by NetCrunch. Additionally, users can add custom certificates to a designated folder.
The new threshold aggregates values over a given period of time and notifies if the limit is breached. This is useful when you want to track consumed bandwidth per day or month or be warned if somebody consumes a lot of disk space in a short time.
Available time periods are
Alert has no auto-close condition. For each time period, a new alert is generated.
NetCrunch 12 introduces a new Monitoring Probe that can be used remotely for monitoring isolated networks and as additional (load balancing) monitoring engines for the NetCrunch server.
NetCrunch uses specialized monitor types such as network services, monitoring packs, and sensors. Now you can find all related monitors in one place and create a new node if necessary.
Now you can easily review all monitoring dependencies and modify them using drag & drop. Additionally, the dependencies manager supports probes and remote address spaces.
NetCrunch 12 saves the configuration activity of NetCrunch users in a separate encrypted database. It's available globally through the NetCrunch Server
window or as the Activity
tab in the nodes' status window.
A new version allows more types of charts and adds additional options to display min, max, and avg lines.
NetCrunch 12 brings new SNMP views to Desktop and Web Console. The new views engine is supported by a monitoring probe. If the node has a writable SNMP profile, you can easily modify the device's SNMP data.
A new clean status window brings new tooltips allowing accessing particular nodes or alerts.
Redesigned presents data in a cleaner way and allows searching through the talkers' list.
The hardware view shows essential hardware information from Windows machines such as the amount of memory, number and kind of CPUs, and storage information.
Whenever traffic data is presented (Flows. Interfaces, Top Charts), NetCrunch uses the same consistent presentation.
New interactive maps are zoomable and draggable like a normal map. Additionally, you can easily search for the node, and the program will zoom on it automatically. Routing map nodes do not reflect their monitoring status for clarity.
The physical segments overview has been simplified and has an optimized layout. The map can be easily dragged and zoomed at the given point like a normal map. Additionally, segments are no longer nested in the Atlas Tree as their connections usually create a graph. Physical Segments utilize LLDP protocol for more better mapping.
The search and zoom feature allows for locating a given element.
NetCrunch 12 introduces an entirely new graphical engine.
Graphical views are no longer part of node views
(map tab) and can't have policies now.
Custom views created in previous versions will be converted to new format automatically.
Views are fully interactive and come with a new modern editor available in Desktop and Web Console.
Graph widgets are updating automatically (according to data time interval). You can easily open trend viewer or given node menu.
All widgets are interactive and allow easily drilling down for the root cause analysis.
Besides a refreshed, clean, modern look, the window visualizes precisely all kinds of thresholds and allows all types of operations related to a given alert.
In many windows like status, top charts, alerts, or nodes you can switch to dark mode
. It is particularly useful when putting them on large display screens.
The tasks tab is a small utility to track simple tasks with attachments.
The new NetCrunch Server dashboard allows quick assessment of the current NetCrunch load and health. It also shows resource utilization history for the last seven days.
All settings have been removed from the top menu and put on a separate tab in one place. You can search for settings using the top-level search or in the search field in the window.
Now you can export trends and events from NetCrunch using the NCCLI
command-line utility.
NetCrunch 12 allows setting exclusions for given address space and specifying exclusions by
NetCrunch event database has been optimized for writing and can store millions of records per day. Unfortunately, reading is less than optimal in such a case.
In NetCrunch 12 we have
Important change - records from the event database can't be removed manually. They are removed after retention time automatically.
We upgraded GrafCrunch to Grafana based on version 7.x. This is the latest version available on Apache license as Grafana has moved toward less permissive licensing to protect its own cloud offer.
